4 Reasons to Stay Away from Online Payroll.

by admin on September 1, 2008

Here are 4 reasons you’ll want to reject online payroll.

1.) You have to set everything up yourself. You set up the Federal, State, and Local taxes. You set up the withholdings and deductions yourself. You have to set up all the employees in their system yourself. You have to set up your unique local taxes, if they will even do that. Are you saving any time yet? Sound like a lot of work you have to do? It is. I know. I do it all the time. I’m not complaining, I like the work.

2.) You have to enter the payroll yourself. Before each payroll, you have to enter the hours, make sure all the changes are right in pay rates, allowances, deductions, garnishments, court decrees, and so forth. Really all their online software is doing is making the calculations for you of net pay. That’s it. Oh, by the way, now you have to print the checks yourself. Are you saving any time yet? Sound like a lot that you have to do? It is. I know. I do it all the time. I’m not complaining, I like the work.

3.) Help is just an 800 number away. Oh great! If you’ve ever been blessed by having to call one of those call centers when you have a problem, you know what I mean. “Your call is important to us. All of our representatives are busy helping other customers. Your call will be answered in the order in which it was received. Please stay on the line and someone will be with you shortly.” You betcha. Then someone from India gets on and is obviously reading script and does not know anything about payroll.

4.) Finally, the price. It is about the same as what we charge here at 10 Minute Payroll. They charge you the same as what we charge, and in their service, you are doing all the work. What a brilliant business model….for them!
